Abstract: The article examines the evolution of Romania’s imports over the 2020–2025 period, highlighting the main trends, the factors that shaped their dynamics, and their effects on the national economy. The analysis shows that imports have had a multifaceted impact on Romania’s economic performance. On the one hand, they supported production, investment, and consumption by providing firms and households with access to raw materials, technologies, and goods that are not available in sufficient quantities on the domestic market. On the other hand, the relatively rapid growth of imports compared with exports contributed to a widening trade deficit and increased the economy’s exposure to fluctuations in international prices and to potential disruptions in global supply chains.
